Punta Cana International Airport is approximately 20 minutes from Cap Cana. Most international flights arrive in the afternoon or evening, which means day one is typically a travel day. If you're staying at Villa Espada, private airport transportation is included in your rental. Plan to arrive, settle in, and save the golf for day two.
Book tee times before you leave home. Both courses fill up during peak season (November through April), and if your group wants to play at a specific time on a specific day, confirming in advance removes that uncertainty. Use day one to arrive, unpack, and get familiar with the property. If you're staying at Villa Espada, your private chef can prepare dinner that evening. The villa includes an outdoor kitchen and bar, a dining table that seats 14 or more, and a SONOS sound system throughout the property.
If your flight arrives early enough, a walk or golf cart ride around the Cap Cana grounds gives you a sense of the layout before play begins. Juanillo Beach is eight minutes by golf cart from Villa Espada and is worth a visit if you have the afternoon free.
Start with Punta Espada. It's the course with the longer reputation, and for most groups it's the primary reason they chose Cap Cana for a golf trip. The course has nine ocean-facing holes, and the cliff-edge sections are among the most visually striking on any resort course in the Caribbean.
Morning tee times are generally preferable in the Dominican Republic. The afternoon can bring heat and occasional wind shifts, and starting early gives you the full afternoon for recovery. Bella Vista restaurant at the Punta Espada clubhouse is a natural post-round stop before returning to the villa.
Plan at least one full off-course day in the middle of the trip. Back-to-back golf days across a five-night stay work for some groups but can dull the experience by the final round. A rest day mid-trip keeps energy levels up.
Cap Cana has enough going on to fill a full day without leaving the community. Scape Park, seven minutes from Villa Espada by golf cart, has cenotes, zip lines, cave tours, and 4x4 buggy excursions. The El Dorado Waterpark is six minutes away and is included in Cap Cana access. The Cap Cana Marina offers deep-sea fishing charters and yacht rentals. Las Iguanas is the second Jack Nicklaus Signature course at Cap Cana, having opened in 2026. It plays through a parkland, wetland, and nature preserve setting with 10 inland lakes, and three holes (12 through 14) run alongside the ocean. The experience is noticeably different from Punta Espada, which makes playing them on separate days the right call.
Because Las Iguanas is a new course with very little written about it yet, your group will be among the first to play it in any meaningful sense. The $26 million investment and Nicklaus Signature designation indicate the standard it was built to, but the specific character of the course is still emerging. That's part of the appeal.
Return to the villa for an afternoon around the pools or in the spa room. Villa Espada has two private pools (a ground-level sports pool and a rooftop terrace pool), a 16-person hot tub, and a private spa room with two massage tables and a four-person steam sauna.
Most groups have a clear preference by day five. Some want a second round on Punta Espada; others find the parkland variety of Las Iguanas more to their liking. A morning tee time on whichever course the group prefers gives you the round, lunch, and a relaxed afternoon before a final dinner at the villa.
If any members of the group didn't play on day two or day four, day five is also a chance to accommodate a different pairing. With 22-guest capacity and two 6-person golf carts, Villa Espada's setup is well suited to groups where not everyone plays every round.
